Pour ce workshop, nous nous sommes concentré·e·s sur un élément représentatif du Havre : la mer. Notre idée était de nous rapprocher des mouvements provoqués par la météo et les éléments naturels.
Pour cela, nous nous sommes arrêté·e·s sur une structure blanche située au centre de la cour. Celle-ci était laissée de côté, servant initialement à soutenir un abri pour les bancs situés en-dessous. Nous avons choisi de la réhabiliter en la transformant en un espace immersif, presque méditatif, permettant de se couper aussi des autres, à l’image de la mer, qui peut être un lieu d’évasion.
Pour la partie textuelle, nous nous sommes tourné·e·s vers une chanson en lien direct avec notre sujet : La Mer de Charles Trenet. Une phrase nous a particulièrement intéressé·e·s : « La mer qu’on voit danser ». Elle nous a servi de base pour proposer des versions alternatives.

For this workshop, we focused on a representative element of Le Havre: the sea. Our idea was to get closer to the movements caused by the weather and natural elements.
To do this, we stopped at a white structure located in the center of the courtyard. This was left aside, initially serving to support a shelter for the benches below. We chose to rehabilitate it by transforming it into an immersive, almost meditative space, allowing you to also cut yourself off from others, like the sea, which can be a place of escape.
For the textual part, we turned to a song directly linked to our subject: La Mer by Charles Trenet. One sentence particularly interested us: “The sea that we see dancing”. It served as a basis for proposing alternative versions.

Notre travail s'est concentré sur une seule moitié de la structure, celle dirigée vers l'entrée de l'école et la plus visible depuis les différents étages. Nous avons décidé de la couvrir à l'aide de bâches sur lesquelles nous aurions peint le début de la phrase. Pour la partie intérieure, et afin de contraster avec la lourdeur de la bâche, nous avons opté pour des voilages tombant, permettant d’être portés par le vent.

Our work focused on only one half of the structure, the one directed towards the entrance to the school and the most visible from the different floors. We decided to cover it with tarpaulins on which we would have painted the beginning of the sentence. For the interior part, and in order to contrast with the heaviness of the tarpaulin, we opted for falling curtains, allowing them to be carried by the wind.

Ce workshop appelé Mots en contexte a été coordonné par Eddy Terki et Silvia Doré. Le but était de nous faire sortir du format écran ou papier et de nous amener à travailler sur une plus grande échelle, dans l'espace, depuis l'architecture et les lieux de l'EsadHaR du Havre.
Nous devions explorer l'école pour créer un lien entre un espace et du texte tout en s'inscrivant dans un territoire, ici la ville du Havre.

This workshop called Words in Context was coordinated by Eddy Terki and Silvia Doré. The goal was to take us out of the screen or paper format and to get us to work on a larger scale, in space, from the architecture and locations of the EsadHaR in Le Havre.
We had to explore the school to create a link between a space and text while being part of a territory, here the city of Le Havre.

Merci à Silvia Doré, Eddy Terki, Vanina Pinter et Sonia Da Rocha pour ce workshop. Sortir de nos habitudes et revenir à un terrain plus concret a été un exercice très stimulant et formateur que je souhaite prolonger dans mon travail de graphiste.

Thanks to Silvia Doré, Eddy Terki, Vanina Pinter and Sonia Da Rocha for this workshop. Breaking out of our habits and returning to more concrete ground was a very stimulating and educational exercise that I wish to extend in my work as a graphic designer.

Le résultat est plutôt satisfaisant : les matériaux se laissent porter par le vent et créent des mouvements intéressants, rappelant les vagues. Les bâches renforcent aussi cette idée grâce au son qu'elles produisent. Cependant, pour la partie intérieure, certains éléments pourraient être améliorés : les bandes sont trop peu nombreuses, et il aurait été pertinent d’en ajouter davantage pour rendre l’espace encore plus sensible et immersif.

The result is rather satisfactory: the materials let themselves be carried by the wind and create interesting movements, reminiscent of waves. The tarpaulins also reinforce this idea thanks to the sound they produce. However, for the interior part, certain elements could be improved: the bands are too few, and it would have been relevant to add more to make the space even more sensitive and immersive.
