Mon ami Ulysse Rhod a fait appel à moi pour la réalisation de son tout premier clip pour son single Letter to the Sun. Il avait déjà une idée assez précise de son clip et voulait quelque chose de relativement simple, avec une progression de vidéos d'ambiance appuyant le côté très planant et poétique de sa chanson.

My friend Ulysse Rhod called on me to produce his very first music video for his single Letter to the Sun. He already had a fairly clear idea of his clip and wanted something relatively simple, with a progression of ambient videos supporting the very atmospheric and poetic side of his song.

Nous avons donc, dans un premier temps, réfléchi à des sujets qu'il aurait été intéressant de filmer. La mer, la nature, le ciel, la lune : ce sont des éléments contemplatifs que l'on apprécie regarder pour s'évader, pour arrêter de penser. C'est donc sur ce type de sujets que nous avons orienté notre vidéo. Nous avons aussi voulu proposer une progression à ces vidéos, afin qu'elles ne soient pas montrées dans un ordre aléatoire. Il nous est alors venu l'idée d'un chemin, d'un voyage partant d'un milieu terrestre, rural, pour aller vers la mer, un milieu aquatique. Ce voyage débutera lors d'une nuit d'été, continuera durant la journée et s'achèvera au coucher du soleil. De plus, le temps du voyage est un moment où l'on contemple les paysages défilant devant soi, où l'on observe les formes et les couleurs qui s'offrent à nous, celles-ci évoluant progressivement.
En résulte ainsi notre vidéo, où l'on explore le monde sous un regard nostalgique, pensif, méditatif, appuyé par un effet de caméra Super 8, tandis que les paroles se fondent dans ces images, rappelant le soleil par la couleur jaune.

So, we first thought about subjects that would have been interesting to film. The sea, nature, the sky, the moon: these are contemplative elements that we enjoy looking at to escape, to stop thinking. It is therefore on this type of subject that we have focused our video. We also wanted to provide a progression to these videos, so that they are not shown in random order. The idea then came to us of a path, of a journey starting from a terrestrial, rural environment, to go towards the sea, an aquatic environment. This journey will begin on a summer night, continue during the day and end at sunset. In addition, the time of travel is a moment when we contemplate the landscapes passing before us, where we observe the shapes and colors available to us, these gradually evolving.
The result is our video, where we explore the world from a nostalgic, pensive, meditative perspective, supported by a Super 8 camera effect, while the words blend into these images, recalling the sun through the yellow color.

Les différentes vidéos utilisées dans ce clip ont été filmées par Ulysse Rhod, Zoé Dandin et moi-même. La plupart proviennent des alentours de la ville de Mantes-la-Jolie et de la Normandie.

Ce fut la première fois que j'ai pu travailler avec un ami et sur un projet en lien avec l'univers de la musique. Ulysse avait une idée très précise de son clip, ce qui m'a énormément aidé dans sa réalisation. De plus, la collaboration étroite avec quelqu'un qui n'est pas initié·e au graphisme et à la composition d'image a été très enrichissante et fructueuse.

It was the first time that I was able to work with a friend and on a project related to the world of music. Ulysse had a very precise idea for his clip, which helped me enormously in its production. In addition, the close collaboration with someone who is not initiated into graphics and image composition was very enriching and fruitful.
